OUR FOOD ETHICS
DINING WITH PURPOSEWe are passionate about sourcing sustainably and ethically farmed produce. Our food is organic where possible, as well as free from additives and preservatives. Even though this makes our ingredients more expensive, we see it as our responsibility to ensure the quality of what we feed to our community.
- Our coffee is organic.
- Our eggs are produced from regeneratively pasture-reared chickens (Usana Pastures & Eggcellent Eggs), free from antibiotics and growth hormones.
- Our dairy is from free-range cows (Fair Cape Dairies), free of antibiotics and growth hormones.
- Our oil is strictly coconut or extra virgin olive oil – NO SEED OILS used in our cooking!
- Our flavouring is Mary Ann’s vegetable stock, spices and herbs (all of which are free from sucrose, preservatives, additives, MSG, non-GMO, and is non-irradiated), Oryx Kalahari desert salt, black pepper and sweetened where necessary with dates. We also use organic tamari instead of soy sauce.
- Our oats is organic.
- Our tofu is NON-GMO.
- Our superfood powders for smoothies are organic.
- Our sourdough bread is made with stone ground Eureka flour and is fermented for a minimum of 32 hours which is more gentle on the gut!
- Our coconut milk is organic.
- Our treats are gluten-free and largely plant-based, sweetened with dates or coconut blossom sugar.
Some Important Notes
- Our cafe supports the SAFCEI organisation which does amazing work in uniting people across different faiths. Their goal is to strongly encourage corporate restaurants and retail suppliers to source their chickens /chicken products from ‘cage–free’ chickens instead of factory farmed / caged chickens.
- We do our best to reduce our footprint as best we can on our precious earth! We compost our veggie offcuts with Soil for Life. We use packaging made from compostable material and we recycle and upcycle our waste as much as possible!
